G8

This installation shows the Earth’s eight greats (four female and four male), positioned on eight columns and held together by ropes, forming a circle. All the figures display similar movements because they are participating in the same “group dance,” which we might call the “Zumba of power.” While performing the same steps in the dance of power, their bodies are unbalanced, and they can only maintain their balance by holding each other by the ropes that connect them all. It is clear that if one of them were to let go of one of the ropes, they would all fall.
We live in an interconnected world; from political and cultural globalization to the international movement of goods, capital, services, technology, and information, nations exist thanks to a continuous flow that passes through them all and feeds them all.
What is the point, then, of this constant barrage of threats and displays of force, which leads us to live perpetually in a war economy, when it is clear to everyone that if one of the ‘great powers of the earth’ were to fall, disastrous repercussions would befall all the others?
